Over the last two weeks the occupying powers have perpetrated a wave of destruction and demolitions in the Jordan Valley. On Tuesday 21st June the army demolished 18 homes and 3 animal shelters in Fasayil, leaving 103 people homeless. A week later, on Tuesday 28th, army jeeps surrounded Al Hadidiya at dawn, and destroyed 7 homes, 18 animal shelters and 4 outdoor kitchens. They then moved on to Khirbet Yarza and demolished two homes and two animal shelters. All these families have been left homeless with very limited support, but are still determined to stay, and resist Israel’s drive to remove them from their land. The UN and Red Cross have shamefully refused to provide support for the majority of the families whose homes were demolished in Fasayil, on the spurious pretext that they came from other areas. In Al Hadidiya people have been left without water, and in Yarza the same families have been subjected to this humiliating and degrading practice time and time again. Amnesty International have issued an urgent call for action against the demolitions in Al Hadidiya – please take a few minutes to support their call. Now is also an ideal time to take boycott action against Israeli companies that are profiting from the settlement expansion and land grabs that are fuelling the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian communities in the valley and elsewhere. A few days ago news broke that Agrexco (the company that markets 60-70% of the agricultural produce grown in Israeli settlements) reported huge financial losses. We call on all our supporters to take action to build the boycott of Agrexco and other Israeli exporters such as Mehadrin In the valley local communities and Jordan Valley Solidarity are taking action assert our right to remain on our land. On Saturday 25th June we’ll be planting Olive trees in Fasayil to send a clear message to the Israeli state, and its army and settlers: “We will not be uprooted”. If you are in Palestine we urge you to join us.
