Gideon Levy : la tortura dell’acqua per i Palestinesi e i beduini della Valle del Giordano

Avi è un ispettore dell’ Amministrazione Civile e parla senza eufemismi. Presumibilmente ama il suo lavoro. Forse ne  è anche orgoglioso .

Egli non si preoccupa di menzionare il suo cognome nei moduli di lui firmati . Perché dovrebbe? Basta “Avi” per svolgere i suoi diktat brutali e disumani  Avi confisca contenitori per l’acqua che servono a centinaia di famiglie palestinesi e ai beduini che vivono nella Valle del Giordano.I contenitori sono l’ unica fonte d’acqua per  queste persone. Nelle ultime settimane   Avi ha confiscato circa una dozzina di contenitori, lasciando decine di famiglie con bambini assetati nel terribile calore della Valle del Giordano . Il reato consiste in questo : rubare l’acqua da un tubo. Per questo motivo i contenitori vengono sequestrati senza nessuna indagine, nessun processo.

Benvenuti nella terra dell’ illegalità e del male. Benvenuti nella terra dell’ ‘apartheid. Israele non consente a migliaia di questi disgraziati di collegare i tubi dell’acqua. Questa acqua è per i soli ebrei. Anche i più grandi propagandisti israeliani non possono negare il nazionalismo, la separazione diabolica che si sta svolgendo qui.

L’asse del male si trova a circa a un’ora di auto da casa tua. Ma emotivamente distante e lontano dal cuore e non ispira nessuna “protesta sociale.” E’ nella scala del male israeliano uno dei peggiori,  sostenuto dalla burocrazia, applicato da ispettori apparentemente non violenti.

L’Amministrazione Civile dovrebbe prendersi cura dei bisogni delle persone,ma in modo spregevole priva le persone   e il bestiame di acqua nella calura estiva graffiante per attuare l’obiettivo strategico di Israele: cacciarli dalle loro terre e spurgare la valle dai non-ebrei residenti.

Il furto d’acqua, sia che si abbia o non abbia luogo, è naturalmente solo una scusa. Anche se lo facessero che scelta hanno queste persone? Le autorità non permettono loro di connettersi al tubo dell’acqua che attraversa i campi: tubi la cui acqua scorre per innaffiare i verdi vigneti dei coloni e i loro terreni.

La settimana scorsa ho visto  le persone alle quali AVI aveva confiscato i contenitori : neonati, una ragazza disabile, un bambino piccolo convalescente per un post-intervento chirurgico, donne e vecchi, e, naturalmente, le pecore ‘unica fonte di reddito qui. Abitanti senza acqua in Israele, non in Africa. Acqua per una sola nazione : Israele.

Ma questo non è l ‘unico spartiacque. Pochi giorni fa le Forze di Difesa israeliane hanno deciso di tenere esercitazioni nella zona. Che cosa hanno fatto? I residenti sono stati sfrattati dalle loro case per 24 ore. Non tutti. Solo  i palestinesi e i beduini, non certo i residenti di Maskiot, Beka’ot o Ro’i. Le autorità non  chiamiamo ciò  apartheid. .

Così circa 400 persone sono state costrette a lasciare le loro capanne e le tende e a trascorrere un giorno e una notte sul suolo arido ,sul ciglio della strada  esposti alle intemperie.

Amjad Zahawa, un bambino di due anni , era da tre giorni sotto sotto il sole cocente, senza un riparo sopra la testa. Saluti, Amjad, benvenuto nella realtà della tua vita.

Avi, come abbiamo già detto ,ama il suo lavoro e ne  è fiero . Decine di altri come lui stanno facendo questo lavoro spregevole. Ma non sono gli unici. Dietro di loro ci sono milioni di israeliani.  Essi allegramente guidano attraverso le strade della valle senza prestare attenzione   alla banchina lungo la strada che imprigiona gli abitanti e blocca l’  accesso alla strada.

C’è un cancello di ferro di tanto in tanto. I soldati, rappresentanti dell’  occupante misericordioso, si fanno vedere ogni pochi giorni  per aprirlo  A volte si dimenticano, a volte sono in ritardo. A volte hanno perso  la chiave, ma che importa?

L’occupazione è illuminata.  Israele ha ragione  :  l’IDF è l’esercito più morale,l’apartheid è solo una invenzione di chi odia Israele. Andate nella valle del Giordano e vedete voi stessi.

The forms he takes pains to complete, in spiffy style, say: “There is reason to suspect they used the above merchandise for carrying out an offense.” Avi’s bosses claim the “offense” is stealing water from a pipe. This is why the containers are seized – with no inquiry, no trial. Welcome to the land of lawlessness and evil. Welcome to the land of apartheid. Israel does not permit thousands of these wretched people to hook up to the water pipes. This water is for Jews only. Even the greatest Israeli propagandists could not deny the nationalist, diabolical separation taking place here.

The axis of evil is located about an hour’s drive from your home. But emotionally distant and far from the heart, it inspires no “social protest.” And on the scale of Israeli evil, it is one of the worst. Backed with forms and bureaucracy, applied by ostensibly nonviolent inspectors, it involves not a drop of blood, yet leaves no drop of water either.

The Civil Administration is supposed to take care of the people’s needs. But it does not stop at the most despicable measure – depriving people and livestock of water in the scathing summer heat – to implement Israel’s strategic goal: to drive them from their lands and purge the valley of its non-Jewish residents.

The stealing of water, whether it did or didn’t take place, is of course only the excuse. Even if there was such a thing – what choice do these people have? The authorities won’t allow them to connect to the water pipe running through their fields; pipes whose water is flowing to saturate the settlers’ green vineyards and fields.

Last week I saw the people whose water container Avi had confiscated, leaving them thirsty. Newborn babies, a handicapped little girl, a small boy post-surgery, women and old folks, and, of course, the sheep – the only source of income here. Denizens with no water – in Israel, not in Africa. Water for one nation only – in Israel, not in South Africa.

But this is not the only watershed. A few days ago, the Israel Defense Forces decided to hold training exercises in the area. What did it do? Evicted the residents from their homes for 24 hours. Not all of them – only the Palestinians and Bedouin. It occurred to nobody to evict the residents of Maskiot, Beka’ot or Ro’i. The authorities don’t call that apartheid, either.

Where did the IDF evict them to? Wherever the wind carries them. Thus some 400 people were forced to leave their huts and tents and spend a day and a night on the arid soil by the roadside, exposed to the elements.

Amjad Zahawa, a 2-day-old infant, passed his third day under the hot sun, with no shelter over his head. Greetings, Amjad; welcome to the reality of your life.

Avi, as we have already mentioned, loves his work and is proud of it. Dozens of others like him are also doing this contemptible work. But they are not the only ones at fault. Behind them stand millions of Israelis who are entirely untouched by all this. They blithely drive through the valley roads, paying no heed to the endless embankment alongside the road, imprisoning the residents and blocking their access to the road.

There is an iron gate every now and then. The soldiers, representatives of the merciful occupier, show up every few days to open the gate for a moment. Sometimes they forget, sometimes they are late. Sometimes they lose the key, but what does it matter?

The occupation is enlightened, Israel is right, the IDF is the most moral army, and apartheid is merely an invention of Israel’s haters. Go to the Jordan Valley and see for yourselves.
