PCHR pubblica un rapporto sulle conseguenze specifiche di genere di ‘Operation Pillar of Defense’

Il Centro Palestinese per i Diritti Umani (PCHR) ha pubblicato martedì un rapporto intitolato “Con gli occhi delle donne”, che si concentra sulle implicazioni di genere e le conseguenze di ‘Operation Pillar of Defense,’ un attacco di 8 giorni delle forze israeliane nella Striscia di Gaza assediata durante novembre 2012. Il rapporto è stato pubblicato in inglese e verrà tradotto e pubblicato in arabo nelle prossime settimane.
Un comunicato stampa sulla relazione afferma che, a seguito dell’offensiva israeliana, 14 donne sono state uccise e almeno altre 92 sono rimasti ferite. Sebbene il numero di omicidi e lesioni illustra la grave dimensione umanitaria di questo conflitto, la reale portata della sofferenza sta nella vita quotidiana nella Striscia di Gaza dopo il ‘Pilastro di funzionamento della Difesa.’ I civili continuano a lottare per ricostruire le loro vite, a far fronte alle loro perdite e a ripristinare una parvenza di dignità umana, indica il rapporto.
Il PCHR ha pubblicato questo rapporto al fine di evidenziare l’impatto di genere di ‘Operation Pillar of Defense.’ A causa della natura patriarcale della società palestinese, le donne nella Striscia di Gaza sono particolarmente sensibili alla emarginazione, povertà e sofferenza causate dall’occupazione e dal conflitto armato. Gli attacchi israeliani spesso sfociano in conseguenze di genere, che sono per lo più ignorate, nonostante la loro gravità. PCHR ha scelto di permettere che queste conseguenze e la realtà della vita dopo l’offensiva siano spiegate attraverso le parole delle vittime. Anche se questa relazione non è preparata dal punto di vista del diritto internazionale, è adatta ad esprimere i diritti umani e la sofferenza umana attraverso storie umane.
La relazione si concentra su 12 donne colpite da attacchi israeliani nel corso di ‘Pilastro funzionamento della Difesa.’ Le loro storie hanno lo scopo di dimostrare l’entità delle sofferenze dei civili nella Striscia di Gaza e le continue difficoltà che devono affrontare a causa della devastazione causata dalle forze israeliane e dalla chiusura illegale in corso.
” Attraverso gli occhi delle donne “, evidenzia le difficoltà delle donne nella Striscia di Gaza nel tentativo di vivere con il loro dolore, le lesioni e la perdita dei loro figli, mariti, parenti, case e mezzi di sussistenza. Queste narrazioni sono espressive non solo delle tribolazioni incontrate dalle donne nella Striscia di Gaza, ma anche della resilienza e della forza che hanno dimostrato in oltre 42 anni di conflitto e di occupazione.
Vale la pena ricordare che il primo rapporto “Attraverso gli occhi delle donne” di PCHR è stato pubblicato il 28 settembre 2009. Era indirizzato agli impatti e alle conseguenze di genere
della’ Operazione Piombo Fuso ‘, durante la quale 118 donne sono state uccise e altre 825 sono rimaste ferite .

PCHR Publishes Report on the Gender-Specific Consequences of ‘Operation Pillar of Defense’

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) published Tuesday a report entitled “Through Women’s Eyes,” which focuses on the gender-specific implications and consequences of ‘Operation Pillar of Defense,’ an 8-day attack by Israeli forces on the beseiged Gaza Strip during Novemeber 2012. The report was published in English and will be translated and published into Arabic in the coming weeks.
A press release about the report states that as a result of the Israeli offensive, 14 women were killed and at least 92 others were wounded. Although the number of killings and injuries illustrates the serious humanitarian dimension of this conflict, the true extent of the suffering lies in the daily life in the Gaza Strip following ‘Operation Pillar of Defense.’ Civilians continue to struggle to rebuild their lives, cope with their loss and restore some semblance of human dignity, shows the report.
PCHR issued this report in order to highlight the gender-specific impacts of ‘Operation Pillar of Defense.’ Due to the patriarchal nature of Palestinian society, women in the Gaza Strip are particularly susceptible to the marginalization, poverty, and suffering brought by the occupation and armed conflict. Israeli attacks often result in gender-specific consequences that are mostly ignored, despite their seriousness. PCHR chose to allow these consequences and the reality of life after the offensive to be unfolded through the victims’ words. Although this report is not prepared from the perspective of the international law, it is suitable to express human rights and human suffering through human stories.
The report focuses on 12 women affected by Israeli attacks over the course of ‘Operation Pillar of Defense.’ Their stories are intended to demonstrate the extent of civilians’ suffering in the Gaza Strip and the continuing difficulties they face due to the devastation caused by the Israeli forces and the ongoing illegal closure.
“Through Women’s Eyes” highlights the difficulties women in the Gaza Strip face as they attempt to live with their grief, injuries and the loss of their children, husbands, relatives, homes, and livelihoods. These narratives are expressive not only the tribulations faced by women in the Gaza Strip, but also of the resilience and strength they have shown over 42 years of conflict and occupation.
It is worth mentioning that PCHR’s first “Through Women’s Eyes” report was released on 28 September 2009. It addressed the gender-specific impacts and consequences of ‘Operation Cast Lead,’ during which 118 women were killed and 825 others were wounded.
