GLI ESPERIMENTI DEL DOTTOR FRANKENSTEIN (IN ISRAELE)
L’Istituto Israeliano WMD ha usato soldati come cavie in un esperimento di antrace non testato

Una lotta di sei anni per la giustizia da parte di un gruppo di soldati e ufficiali IDF si è conclusa con lo Stato che ha accettato di pagare loro 6 milioni di dollari (di Yossi Melman la storia in ebraico e la versione inglese , che è stata sostituita nel sito Jerusalem Post da una storia ben più IDF-friendly da Yaakov Lapin) per la loro partecipazione ad un esperimento medico condotto sotto falsi pretesti. Tra il 1999 e il 2005, il ministero della difesa, l’IDF, e l’Istituto israeliano per le armi chimiche e biologiche a Nes Ziona ha collaborato con i loro omologhi americani in una ricerca per trovare un adeguato vaccino contro l’antrace . Questo fu il periodo subito dopo la lettera con la “polvere bianca” che spaventò gli Stati Uniti, in cui molti americani furono infettati con l’antrace e morirono. C’erano un enorme furore e isteria in questo paese sulla potenziale minaccia terroristica.
Presumibilmente, le autorità mediche americane o non avrebbero testato soggetti umani con un vaccino non sperimentato o non potevano ottenere l’approvazione di farlo (ricordate il famigerato esperimento di Tuskegee?). Ma i loro colleghi israeliani erano più che felici di piegare le regole mediche ed etiche, soprattutto in cambio di centinaia di milioni di shekel nei finanziamenti della ricerca che scorrevano in Nes Ziona di conseguenza. Poiché il soggetto dell’esperimento (l’antrace, che poteva essere utilizzato come parte di un attacco terroristico) era così sensibile, coloro che hanno condotto l’esperimento israeliano hanno rifiutato di dire ai “volontari” dell’IDF (alcuni dei quali hanno riferito di essere sotto pressione dai loro superiori per la partecipazione) lo scopo del progetto. Essi non avrebbero detto loro ciò che era stato iniettato o perché. Essi non sono stati avvertiti dei possibili effetti indesiderati (di cui ce ne sono stati molti successivamente). Inoltre, hanno minacciato che se i partecipanti avessero parlato del progetto sarebbero stati puniti.
Dopo che sono stati iniettati, un numero di soggetti ha sviluppato gravi effetti collaterali che includevano:
“… Tra gli altri – morbo di Crohn, infiammazione della tiroide, reazioni allergiche e dermatiti, insufficienza renale temporanea”.
Quando le vittime chiedevano spiegazioni su quanto era loro stato fatto , erano pareti di pietra. Alla fine, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel ha preso il loro caso. Ma Nes Ziona, l’IDF e il ministero della Difesa categoricamente hanno negato ogni responsabilità e hanno rifiutato il risarcimento per le vittime. Alla fine, ha raggiunto la Corte suprema, che ha ordinato l’arbitrato con il conseguente accordo di oggi. 92 dei 700 soggetti sottoposti al test originali hanno partecipato alla causa. A $ 9.000 per ciascuno di coloro che erano membri della classe che fatto la citazione, sembra che i dottori Frankenstein che hanno organizzato questo se la siano cavata troppo facilmente. Né il governo ha dovuto accettare la colpa per il suo ruolo nel sanzionare questo esperimento. Sarà istituito un fondo medico di 5 milioni di dollari per fornire per qualsiasi trattamento medico futuro derivante dall’esperimento.
L’Israel Medical Association ha studiato il processo scientifico eha pubblicato un rapporto graffiante dicendo che gli organizzatori avevano ignorato gli standard medici ed etici di base come indicato nella Dichiarazione di Helsinki. Inoltre si trova:
“Il rapporto ha anche messo in dubbio la necessità della sperimentazione e suggerisce che serviva interessi diversi da quelli dello Stato di Israele. Secondo i rapporti esteri, l’Istituto per la ricerca biologica ha condiviso le sue conclusioni dall’esperimento con gli Stati Uniti in cambio l’investimento di centinaia di milioni di shekel all’ istituto.”
Non può essere un caso che il suddetto passaggio appare nell’articolo in lingua inglese di Yossi Melman sul Jerusalem Post. Ma questa versione è scomparsa dal sito per essere sostituita dalla versione scritta da Yaakov Lapin, che ho citato sopra. La versione di Lapin non contiene alcun riferimento alla partecipazione di Nes Ziona nell’esperimento, né menziona il riferimento preoccupante per le autorità statunitensi del pagamento per utilizzare soggetti israeliani come cavie.
Francamente, si potrebbe pensare che una nazione, alcuni dei cui cittadini erano stati sottoposti ad esperimenti medici raccapriccianti dai nazisti, sarebbe più sensibile alla questione del consenso e della trasparenza nella sperimentazione medica. Il medico di Nes Ziona che ha organizzato il progetto è convenientemente in pensione. L’istituto ha affermato che tutte le future simili prove saranno condotte ai sensi dei protocolli di Helsinki. Troppo tardi per i 700 soggetti ignari di questo studio medico.
Non dimentichiamo che Nes Ziona è anche il luogo in cui si sviluppa ben altro delle più letali armi chimiche e biologiche. Si sviluppano anche le tossine segrete utilizzate per assassinare i militanti palestinesi, come è avvenuto nel caso di Khaled Meshal e Mahmoud al-Mabouh, tra gli altri. Un futuro presidente di Israele, Efraim Katzir, fu il fondatore dell’istituto. A suo merito, quando Ben Gurion propose l’idea, Chaim Weizmann, uno scienziato con una bussola etica forte, non voleva avere niente a che fare con esso. Anche se l’istituzione da lui fondata, l’Istituto Weizmann, ha anche partecipato a ricerche WMD israeliane.

Israeli WMD Institute Used Soldiers as Guinea Pigs in Untested Anthrax Experiment

A six year struggle by a group of IDF soldiers and officers for justice has ended with the Stateagreeing to pay them $6-million (Yossi Melman’sHebrew story and the English version, which has been replaced on the Jerusalem Post site by a far more IDF-friendly story by Yaakov Lapin) for their participation in a medical experiment conducted under false pretenses. Between 1999-2005, the ministry of defense, IDF, and the Israeli chemical and biological weapons institute at Nes Ziona collaborated with their American counterparts in research to find a suitable anthrax vaccine. This was the period just after the U.S. “white powder” letter scare in which several Americans were infected with anthrax and died. There was a huge furor and hysteria in this country over the potential terror threat.
Presumably, U.S. medical authorities either wouldn’t test human subjects with an untested vaccine or couldn’t get approval to do so (remember the notorious Tuskegee experiment?). But their Israeli colleagues were more than happy to bend medical and ethical rules, especially in return for the hundreds of millions of shekels in research funding that flowed into Nes Ziona as a result. Because the subject of the experiment (anthrax that might be used as part of a terror attack) was so sensitive, those who conducted the Israeli experiment refused to tell the IDF “volunteers” (some of whom reported being pressured by their superiors to participate) the purpose of the project. They would not tell them with what they were being injected or why. They weren’t warned of possible side effects (of which there were many subsequently). Further, they threatened that if participants spoke of the project they would be punished.
After they were injected, a number of subjects developed serious side effects which included:
…Among others – Crohn’s disease, thyroid inflammation, allergic dermatitis reactions and temporary kidney failure.
When victims demanded explanations about what had been done to them, they were stone-walled. Eventually, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel took up their case. But Nes Ziona, the IDF and ministry of defense adamantly denied responsibility and refused compensation for the victims. Eventually, it reached the Supreme Court, which ordered arbitration resulting in today’s agreement. 92 of the 700 original test subjects participated in the lawsuit. At $9,000 for each of those who were members of the class that sued, it seems the Dr. Frankensteins who organized this got off too easy. Nor did the government have to accept fault for its role in sanctioning this experiment. A $5-million medical fund will be established to provide for any future medical treatment resulting from the experiment.
The Israel Medical Association studied the scientific trial and issued a scathing report saying organizers had ignored basic medical and ethical standards as specified in the Declaration of Helsinki. Further it found:
The report also questioned the necessity of the experiment and suggested that it served interests other than those of the State of Israel. According to foreign reports, the Institute for Biological Research shared its findings from the experiment with the United States in exchange for the investment of hundreds of millions of shekels in the institute.
It may not be an accident that the above passage appears in Yossi Melman’s English language article on the Jerusalem Post. But that version has disappeared from the site to be replaced by the version written by Yaakov Lapin, which I mentioned above. Lapin’s version contains no reference to the participation of Nes Ziona in the experiment, nor does it mention the troubling reference to U.S. authorities paying to use Israeli subjects as guinea pigs.
Frankly, you would think that a nation, some of whose citizens had been subjected to gruesome medical experiments by the Nazis would be more sensitive to the issue of consent and transparency in medical experimentation. The Nes Ziona doctor who organized the project has conveniently retired. The institute has affirmed that all future such trials will be conducted under the Helsinki protocols. Too late for the 700 unsuspecting subjects of this medical trial.
Let’s not forget Nes Ziona is also the place that develops other far more lethal chemical and biological weapons. It also develops secret toxins used to assassinate Palestinian militants as happened in the case of Khaled Meshal and Mahmoud al-Mabouh, among others. A future president of Israel, Ephraim Katzir was the founder of the institute. To his credit, when Ben Gurion proposed the idea, Chaim Weizmann, a scientist with a stronger ethical compass, wanted nothing to do with it. Although the institution he founded, the Weizmann Institute, has also participated in Israeli WMD research.
